TheBlaze (Nov 29) — New security footage obtained by the French newspaper Nice Matin appears to show what is being called one of the biggest jewelry heists in history. The thief, who remains at large, reportedly stole $136 million worth of jewels in a brazen heist that was over in less than a minute.
The surveillance video shows the very calm crook stealing a briefcase and a small box from a jewelry exhibit by the Leviev Diamond House as he held two vendors, a manager and three security guards at gunpoint.
It took less than a minute for the professional thief to escape with 72 pieces of jewelry. Though the heist was caught on camera, the thief’s face was covered with a scarf and hat, providing little help to investigators.
